Just got a new notebook and drive is really slow to...? - notebook cd record

Select any item from the CD (with different programs on them). The disk works on the desktop (XP Home), but the portable hard drive freezes or the other or do not recognize the programs on the CD.
Notebook is also home to XP, MX6214
Intel ® Celeron ® M 420, DL DVD ± RW / CD-RW 1.5GHz, 512MB.
Play DVD movies and saves easily though.

It started from the front right (not clear), since the drive worked fine yesterday. Virus scan showed nothing.

Ideas?
